Cascade Christian wins, 49-24, on to finals!

Defending state champion Cascade Christian, 10-1 and the No. 3 seed in the Class 3A football playoffs, takes on No. 2 seed Amity, also 10-1, in the semifinals at Cottage Grove High School today at 2:15 p.m.

Something's gotta give: Amity is the state's highest-scoring team, and Cascade Christian has allowed the fewest points.

First quarter:

Amity, 7:19 -- Takes an 8-0 lead on a West Streeter 13-yard run. Tyler Parr passed to Josh Wart for the two-point conversion.

CC, 4:47 -- Kiegan Schaan passes 13 yards to Ian Fralich for a touchdown. Ethan Hoffman kicks the PAT.

Amity, 3:12 -- Jonathan Mather breaks off a 72-yard TD run, and Parr hooks up with Payton Richardson for another two-point conversion.

CC, :06 -- Kiegan Schaan passes 19 yards to Cade Sample, but Kristian Fralich's conversion run fails.


Second quarter:

Amity, 4:44 -- Jonathan Mather scores his second touchdown of the day, going one yard. West Streater runs in the conversion.

CC, 4:32 -- John Fralich answers for the Challengers by returning the kickoff 63 yards for a score. Ethan Hoffman's kick is good.

CC, :28 -- Luke Smith scores from the 2 to give the Challengers their first lead. Ethan Hoffman's kick is no good.

Kiegan Schaan had an impressive first half, completing 9 of 10 passes for 157 yards and two scores.

Luke Smith led the ground game with 36 yards on six carries for the Challengers.

Ian Fralich has five catches for 70 yards and a score.

For Amity, Jonathan Mather had 10 carries for 131 yards and two TDs, and West Streeter 14 carries for 92 and a score.

Third quarter:

Cascade Christian starts with the ball.

CC, 2:01 -- Kiegan Schaan finally adds the first points of the third quarter with a 9-yard TD run up the middle. The kick is blocked, however.

CC, 8:45 -- Kiegan Schaan passes to John Fralich for 6 yards to give the Challengers a bit of a cushion. Ethan Hoffman makes the kick.

Kiegan Schaan has been named the Cascade Christian player of the game. West Streeter gets the honor for Amity.

CC, 2:46 -- Ethan Hoffman kicks a 37-yard field goal as Cascade Christian moves its lead to 42-24, cementing its hopes of returning to the Class 3A championship.


CC, 1:06 -- An interception leads to a Luke Smith 4-yard TD run and an Ethan Hoffman extra point, 49-24.

Some stats for Cascade Christian:

Kiegan Schaan 20 of 25 for 250 yards and three TDs. He also carried nine times for 63 yards and a score.

Luke Smith had 18 carries for 47 yards and two TDs.

Ian Fralich caught five passes for 70 yards and a score.

John Fralich had four catches for 60 yards and a TD.

The Challengers will play the winner of the Vale-Rainier game for the state championship next weekend.
