Bradfield, Pirates rally for triumph

MERLIN — With just seven girls at its disposal, the Phoenix volleyball team almost didn't even play Monday's Skyline Conference opener against host North Valley.

But the Pirates are glad they did.

With the help of Kelsie Bradfield, Phoenix rallied to upend the Knights, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Bradfield, Phoenix's team captain, scored the winning point in the fifth game on a night when she posted a career-high 19 blocks and 14 kills.

The Pirates (2-3, 1-0 Skyline) were without six players because of the flu.

Chandler Tally racked up 15 kills and six blocks, Danielle Smith added 13 kills and Annika Pond had 13 digs for the Pirates, who had lost their previous three matches that went five games.
