Belovitch leads RVA past Hosanna Christian

KLAMATH FALLS — Zoe Belovitch scored 14 points and clinched the game at the free throw line as the Rogue Valley Adventist girls basketball team earned a big early season Mountain Valley League road win, 48-44, over Hosanna Christian on Thursday.

The host Lions trimmed an eight-point lead to two and had a chance to take their first lead of the night when Shielteal Watah fired a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to go, but her shot was off. The Red Tail Hawks secured the rebound and Belovitch hit two free throws with four seconds left to secure the win for RVA, which improved to 13-1, 4-1 in the MVL.

“To beat them at their place was big for us,” Rogue Valley Adventist coach Marlene Slagle said.

Besides her team-high scoring load, Belovitch had eight rebounds and five blocks. Rose Tovar added 10 points, 10 rebounds and three steals and Paris Quave nine points and three steals.

Watah led Hosanna Christian (9-3, 1-2) with 14 points.

Boys Basketball

HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 58, RV ADVENTIST 33: At Klamath Falls, Hosanna Christian outscored Rogue Valley Adventist by 18 points in the second half to blow open the game.

Isaiah Christensen led the Red Tail Hawks (7-8, 2-4 MVL) with 13 points, and Marcus Wiggers had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Hosanna Christian earned its seventh straight win to improve to 10-2, 3-0 in the MVL.


PIRATES ROLL: At Klamath Falls, Phoenix went 3-0 during the Skyline Duals at Klamath Falls on Wednesday, beating Henley 42-35, Klamath Union 54-24 and Hidden Valley 48-27 at Klamath Union High School.

A story in Thursday's paper reported an incomplete score for the Henley match.

In the win over Henley, Phoenix 182-pounder Dane Johnson pinned Wyatt Gallagher in the last match to clinch the dual victory. Also earning pins for Phoenix against Henley were Ryan Brumble (195), Ishmael DeLaTorre (285), Ezra DeLuca (113), Elijah Leonis (126) and Zachariah Trenbeath (160).
