Balanced Phoenix rolls to win

TALENT — Five different players scored a goal to lead host Phoenix to a 5-0 victory against North Valley in a Skyline Conference game at Hagler-James Park on Saturday.

Jalisco Macias scored in the 13th minute when he corralled a loose ball and booted it in from approximately five yards.

Andy Buell added a goal in the 26th on a penalty kick and Tito Onesto scored off a corner kick in the 38th minute to give the Pirates a 3-0 halftime advantage.

Phoenix (5-0, 2-0 Skyline) added a pair of goals in the final three minutes. Jonathan Hernandez scored off an assist by Macias in the 77th minute and Luis Hernandez capped the scoring in the 79th. He was assisted by Miguel Diaz.

"It's a pretty balanced attack," Phoenix coach Dennis Flenner said. "We're scoring from different people. That's important."

District 3

  • CANYONVILLE CHRISTIAN 7, ROGUE RIVER 2 — At Rogue River, Justin Brown and Brandon Kynsi each scored in the loss for host Rogue River (1-1 Dist. 3).
  • CRESWELL 3, ST. MARY'S 1 — At Creswell, Creswell scored on a penalty kick in each half and Gabriel Cantoran added an insurance goal in the 55th minute as the Bulldogs stayed unbeaten in league play

Keenan Grant connected on a penalty kick with approximately seven minutes remaining for St. Mary's (2-1, 1-1 Dist. 3).


CRESCENT VALLEY 3, CRATER 2 — At Central Point, visiting Crescent Valley tied the game at 2-2 late in the first half on a penalty kick and scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of the second half.

Ben Purtzer put Crater (3-2-1) on the scoreboard in the third minute on a penalty kick and Florian Katenbrink gave the Comets a 2-1 lead with his goal in the 32nd minute.
