Alegria paces Pirates

REDDING, Calif. — Senior Lupita Alegria finished 23rd overall to lead the Phoenix High girls to sixth place in the team race and the Phoenix boys finished 13th in the 12th annual Bill Springhorn Cross Country Classic on Friday.

Alegria finished the 3-mile race in 19 minutes, 38 seconds. Trinity’s Lauren Harper won the meet in 18:06.

The Phoenix boys were led by sophomore Noah Marshall, who placed 17th in 16:23. Chico’s Charlie Giannini, a senior, won the 3-mile race in 15:06 to lead Chico to the team title.

ASHLAND 4, NORTH VALLEY 0: At Ashland, freshman Davidson Graham had a hat trick to go with assist as Ashland earned its first victory of the season.

Graham connected in the 34th minute on an assist from Carson Pindell, in the 57th with a diving header before scoring again three minutes later. He also assisted on Milan Pyle’s tally in the 50th munute. Goalkeepers Zander Huston and Gabe Giancarlo each had two saves in the shutout. Sweeper Sam Austin had a strong performance for Ashland (1-1).
