Walker, Mavs roll past Marist

CORVALLIS — North Medford pitcher Charlie Walker threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lift the Mavericks past Marist 5-2 in the 10-team Corvallis Summer Slam wood bat tournament on Thursday.

Walker also hit a two-run single in the first inning, when North Medford rattled off four runs to pull away. Micah Brown bashed an RBI single and Christian Gillis added a run-scoring double in the inning.

On the mound, Walker allowed two earned runs and five walks en route to his first victory of the summer.

The Mavericks (12-5) take on Crescent Valley and Tigard today.

CENTRAL POINT 6-5, SOUTH MEDFORD 5-2 — Central Point's Taylor Pardee had the go-ahead RBI in the opener and the Comets held South Medford at bay in the nightcap en route to the Area 4 sweep at Central High.

The Colts (9-5) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to draw within a run before relief pitcher Ty Fox struck out the final two batters to end Game 1.

Jimmy Sporer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Trevor Meyer went 2-for-4 with two runs for South in the opener.

Evan Erskine and Steven Sparacino both recorded two hits and Blake Fahndrich homered in Game 2. Winning pitcher Matt Preston threw a five-hitter with no walks.
