Spartans unable to crack Icemen

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The Southern Oregon Spartans fell 6-3 to the host Lake Tahoe Icemen on Friday in Western States Tier II Hockey League action.

Mason Cooper netted a pair of goals, Daniel Lamartina added one goal and Joel Holmberg tallied two assists for the Spartans (11-29-1, 23 points), who remain in the basement of the Northwest Division.

Krystof Holub had 34 saves in goal, including 21 in the opening period, for Southern Oregon, which trailed 3-2 heading into the third period and was outshot 40-33 for the contest.

Easton Easterson and Philip Heisse III scored two goals apiece for the Icemen (21-9-3, 45 points), the second-place team in the Northwest Division.
