Spartans fall short to Totems in opener

SEATTLE — The Southern Oregon Spartans scored first in their season-opening game against Seattle, but the Totems ran off three straight goals in a 4-2 NORPAC hockey victory Friday.

Seattle, the perennial Pacific Division champion, improved to 3-0.

Southern Oregon, which has finished last in the division in its three years of play, visits Puget Sound tonight.

The Spartans' Patging Martin netted a goal 5:02 into the opening period before the Totems took over with two goals in the second period, by Chace Jackson and Everett Mayers.

Chris Fink put Seattle up 3-1 only 35 seconds into the third.

Vance Bridgman scored on a power play on an assist from Chris Whitten in the third period for the Spartans.
