Seven Medford Rogues players have been selected for the third annual Great West League All-Star Game, slated to be played Monday at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls.
First pitch is at 6:35 p.m., with a Home Run Derby slated for 4:30 p.m.
Rogues infielders Tommy Ahlstrom (Simpson University) and Kody Garvin (Lewis-Clark State College), outfielder Cole Carder (University of Antelope Valley) and pitchers Tony Barrios (UC San Diego), Tanner Simpson (Lewis-Clark State College), Gabe Smith (Everett Community College) and Chase Spinning (University of New Mexico) were all named to the GWL North team.
The North All-Stars are made up of players from the Chico Heat, Klamath Falls Gems and Medford Rogues, while the South All-Stars are comprised of players from the Lincoln Potters, San Francisco Seals and Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox. Fred Ludwig, skipper of the Chico Heat, will manage the North All-Stars, while Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox manager Jeramy Gillen will lead the South All-Stars.
Ahlstrom entered Tuesday’s game batting .364 and leading the Rogues in RBIs (29) and home runs (6). Earlier this summer Ahlstrom had a banner night against the Lincoln Potters, going 6-for-6 with four doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored to lead the Rogues to franchise records in hits (21) and runs scored (23). Ahlstrom’s six hits and four doubles in a game also set a single-game record for the Rogues.
Carder, a Medford native, is batting .384 with a team-high 43 runs to go with 25 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Carder had a 14-game hitting streak earlier this year.
Garvin is batting .335 and is tied with Carder in home runs (4) to go with 17 RBIs.
Barrios was a late entry for the Rogues but in less than a month he has faced 76 batters over 18 innings and struck out 15 with only seven earned runs on 10 hits.
In 31?2/3 innings, Simpson has struck out 31 batters and allowed only seven runs on 28 hits.
Smith has struck out 17 in 16?2/3 innings, allowing five runs on 16 hits for a 0.54 ERA.
Spinning has pitched 26?1/3 innings and struck out 28 with seven earned runs on 18 hits. Spinning joins Simpson with three wins, and has a 1.71 ERA.
