Secciani, Charlton snap 'Dawgs skid

In the midst of an eight-game losing streak, the Southern Oregon RiverDawgs were in dire need of a positive turn on Friday.

Kyle Secciani's timely home run and Frank Charlton's gutsy performance at the mound took down the WCL Tri-State's top team as the RiverDawgs edged the Humboldt Crabs, 1-0, at Harry & David Field.

Secciani crushed the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the ninth over the right field wall for a walkoff home run. It was Secciani's first round tripper of the season

And Charlton's turned in his most masterful effort from the hill this season.

Charlton tossed nine innings of shutout ball, allowing only four hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts. He only allowed runners on second base twice — in the sixth and seventh innings. Overall, Charlton allowed just six Crabs on base, but the RiverDawgs were struggling to give the ace breathing room. Prior to the ninth inning, the RiverDawgs had only put runners on second base twice.

Secciani, who has had at least one other game-winning hit this season, ended the RiverDawgs losing streak off Crabs' relief pitcher Jesse Moore, who replaced starter Chris DeBoo in the bottom of the ninth.

Ryan Hayden was 2-for-3 for the RiverDawgs (12-19, 6-15 WCL Tri-State), who had five hits. The Crabs dropped to 34-7 and 17-4 in league.

The RiverDawgs play the first of a two-game series against the Humboldt Steelheads in a nonleague game today at 7 p.m. at Harry & David Field.
