LINCOLN, Calif. — The Medford Rogues opened one of their most important three-game series of the season with a bang Friday, ripping eight extra-base hits en route to a resounding 16-5 Great West League victory over the Lincoln Potters at McBean Stadium.
The Rogues entered the night 1 1/2 game behind the second-place Potters in the GWL standings but narrowed the gap after racing out to a 5-0 lead through three innings before finishing with a bang, scoring nine runs in the last two innings to slap an exclamation point on the lopsided road win.
Medford left-fielder Josh McIntyre spearheaded the offensive onslaught, finishing only a single shy of hitting for the cycle after belting a double, a triple and his fourth home run of the season while driving in four runs and scoring three.
Blake Baumgartner went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, Joe Bath 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs and Tommy Ahlstrom hit his sixth homer of the season, a three-run blast that gave the Rogues (23-18) a 4-0 lead in the third.
Medford starter Bobby Voortmeyer earned the win after holding the Potters (23-17) scoreless through the first 3 2/3 innings. He struck out three with two walks.
Lincoln’s Brian Morley hit a grand slam in the seventh — his eighth home run of the season — to cut Medford’s lead to 7-4, but the Rogues reclaimed the momentum by tacking on three more runs in the eighth, two on Bath’s double.
