The Southern Oregon RiverDawgs scored in only a pair of innings Wednesday but it was enough in a Far West League matchup with the NorCal Longhorns at Harry & David Field.
The RiverDawgs got solid pitching from Tyler Spencer and Jackson Gaskins, who combined on a six-hitter in the 5-1 amateur baseball victory.
Southern Oregon has won eight straight and improved to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in FWL play.
Spencer went the first six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk against seven strikeouts. Gaskins allowed one run over the final three innings on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Southern Oregon also played error-free defense.
Tynan Pedretti broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a two-run single and finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
After NorCal trimmed its deficit to 2-1 in the top of the eighth, the RiverDawgs responded in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single by Nathan Etheridge and an RBI fielder's choice by Chris Streeter for the final margin.
Etheridge finished 3-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.

OREGON AMATEUR — At Tualatin, Rogue River's Kevin Murphy and Medford's Abby Mann won first-round matches in the 103rd men's and women's tournaments at Tualatin Country Club.
Murphy defeated Rustin Bonner, of Bandon, 3 and 2, in the men's 64-man bracket, and Mann downed Juhee Lee, of Wilsonville, 1 up, in the women's field of 32.
Also in women's play, Kelsey Morrison, of Newberg, eliminated Grants Pass' Johnna Nealy, 7 and 6.
Murphy was 2 up after the seventh, 11th and 13th holes but couldn't put away Bonner. Back-to-back birdies at Nos. 13 and 14 put the Rogue River 18-year-old 3 up, and he won with halves on the next two holes.
Murphy faces Brent Pollock, a 1-up winner over Andrew Fitch in today's Round of 32. The winner plays again today in the Round of 16.
Mann never led in her match until the final hole, when her par 4 was better than Lee's bogey. Mann's biggest deficit was 2 holes through seven.
She takes on Kendall Prince, a 6-and-5 winner over Whitney Jammerman, in the Round of 16 today. The quarterfinals are Friday.
