In the opener, the Mustangs used a 16-hit attack to blow away the Nuts, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after three and 9-2 lead through six. In the second game, Watts’ RBI single and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded allowed the Mustangs to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.
Chico rebounded in the bottom of the inning, scoring the tying run on a single by Shane Taylor and the go-ahead run on an error.
Bennett Thompson drew a two-out walk in the top of the seventh to keep the Mustangs’ hopes for a sweep alive, but Chico reliever Kellen Brothers struck out Medford leadoff hitter Joe Johnson to end the game.
