Monsters down Spartans

The Fresno Monsters scored twice in the last 10 minutes to beat the Southern Oregon Spartans, 3-1, in Western States Hockey League action Friday at The RRRink.

With the game tied 1-1 in the final period, the visiting Monsters surged ahead with 9 minutes, 9 seconds to go when Joel Brotzge connected off an assist by Jackson Baumi. Fresno added an insurance goal with 1:40 left.

The Spartans took an early lead when Eric Vanderhoff scored off assists by Logan Emery and Hayden Moistner less than a minute into the second period. The Monsters tied it up less than six minutes later.
