Revving up for Friday's American Legion A state tournament, North Medford swept North Jackson Monday.
The Mavericks won 16-3 in five innings in Game 1 but needed eight innings for a 5-4 in Game 2 at North Medford High School.
The area champion Mavericks (45-13, 26-6 Area 4) open state against La Grande on Friday at 4 p.m. at Crater High. North Jackson, No. 4 in Area 4, plays Sheldon today in Grants Pass in a play-in game.
David Crofton provided the game-winning hit in the nightcap.
After Charlie Walker popped out on a sacrifice bunt attempt that turned into a double play, Crofton came through with a shot into the left-center field gap to plate Bryan Carbonell.
Christian Gillis went all eight innings for the Mavericks. He allowed four unearned runs on six hits and one walk. He also fanned eight.
His counterpart, Derrik Walls of North Jackson, pitched a complete game as well. He surrendered just three earned runs, allowing six hits, six walks and striking out three.
Carbonell and Hayden Evans both went 2-for-3 for the Mavericks, while North Jackson received two hits apiece from Daniel Morgan and Cody Pfister.
In the opener, pitcher Carbonell started for only the second time but picked up his sixth victory. He went all five innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits, one walk and fanning six.
Gillis led the Mavericks with a 2-for-3, three-RBI effort.
Crofton and Micah Brown both went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two. Raff went 2-for-3.

SOUTH MEDFORD 9-14, CC-STM-RR 1-12 — South Medford's Austin Reames pitched a one-hitter in the opener against Cascade Christian-St. Mary's-Rogue River at Harry & David Field.
In seven innings, Reames allowed one unearned run, struck out 11 and walked five. The Wolfpack's hit was by Dan Leavens in the third.
Pat Alexander went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Ryan Johnson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Colts.
In Game 2, CC-St.M-RR (5-29, 3-27 Area 4) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
Reames starred again, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Trevor Meyer was 3-for-4.
For the Wolfpack, Jake Miller went 3-for-5 and drove in two. Ben Zomerdyk and Garrett Banks both had a pair of hits. Zomerdyk drove in three runs and Banks two.

NORTH MEDFORD SECOND — At Canby, the North Medford Black Stallions placed second in the state tournament, losing to Area 4 rival Roseburg 12-1 in five innings in the title game Sunday.
Roseburg, North Medford and South Medford were the top three teams, respectively, in Area 4, and all made it to the final four in the winner's bracket of the 16-team event.
South Medford lost the consolation title game to Sprague.
North Medford (19-9) opened with a 12-3 victory over Sprague, then defeated Sherwood, 15-13, and South Medford, 17-7, before falling to Roseburg.
Kyle Packard drove in Jared Evans for the Stallions' lone run Sunday. Evans was 2-for-3 in the game and 5-for-7 for the tourney, while Packard led the team in average, going 5-for-6 overall for an .833 mark.
Michael Jones' seven hits, in 12 at-bats, led the Stallions.
