CHICO, Calif. — The Medford Rogues were unable to solve Chico’s pitching combination of Blake Hannah and Reid McLaughlin before the Heat produced some late offense to derail the Rogues, 6-1, at Nettleton Stadium Field on Monday.
Despite the loss, the third-place Rogues (24-20) remain half a game back of second place in the Great West League as Lincoln suffered a loss to Yuba-Sutter.
Hannah struck out six over five innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits.
McLaughlin continued where Hannah left off in the sixth with three innings of shutout ball to go with three strikeouts and the decision.
Rogues starting pitcher Robby Ahlstrom struck out three and only allowed one earned run in 4?2/3 innings. He gave up three hits and three walks.
After throwing a scoreless sixth, reliever Michael Moore was touched up for five runs over the seventh and eighth innings.
Blake Baumgardner drove in the Rogues’ lone run in the first inning with a two-out single.
He knocked in Riley Kasper who reached base on an error by Chico third baseman Wyatt before stealing second base.
