Central Point residents Niels Goossens and Jeff McJunkin excelled at the U.S. Fencing Association-sanctioned High Desert Duel Fencing Tournament in Bend on Sunday.

In the Division III Epee competition for fencers with a USFA national ranking of 'D' or under, Goossens took first place and McJunkin took second.

Goossens tied for third in the mixed open division, while McJunkin earned seventh.

For their efforts, Goossens earned a national rating of 'C' and McJunkin earned an 'E' rating.


Judy Bullock knocked in a hole-in-one on Oct. 16 at Rogue Valley Country Club on the fourth hole with an 8-iron.

Witnessing the shot were Sally Jachowski, Linda Pons and Becky Barry.


Steve Watkins made a double-eagle on the par-5 16th hole at Rogue Valley Country Club Oct. 4.

Watkins used a 3-hybrid to find the cup on his 200-yard second shot to a back left pin. The hole measures 461 yards.

His playing partners were Fred Moran, Doug Larson and Dave Shinn.


Clay Farley aced the 13th hole at Eagle Point Golf Course with a 5-iron from 155 yards out on Monday.

Playing partners Chuck Todd, Roger Courtney and John Robinson witnessed the shot.


Craig Black used his 9-iron to sink a hole-in-one on the 139-yard, 11th hole at Rogue Valley Country Club on Oct. 15. Tim Darland, Mike Gallagher and Chuck Schlafke witnessed Black's shot.
