HOCKEY: Blazers shut down Spartans

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — By the time the Southern Oregon Spartans were able to chalk one up on scoreboard Saturday, it was too late against the Western States Hockey League Northwest Division’s top team.

The Bellingham Blazers shot out of the gates with three first-period goals and came away with a 4-1 victory at Bellingham Sportsplex, handing the Spartans their fifth straight defeat.

Eric Vanderhoff connected on the Spartans’ lone goal with less than three minutes to play on an assist from Axel Low.

The Spartans (6-13) will try to salvage a win today in the third of a three-game series against the Blazers (17-4).
