Gems down Rogues to clinch series

A rough sixth inning defensively put the Medford Rogues in a hole it was unable to climb out of as the Great West League squad wrapped up a three-game series against the Klamath Falls Gems on Sunday.

The Gems capitalized with three runs on two errors in the frame and grabbed a 6-3 victory, taking two out of three games against the Rogues at Harry & David Field.

With Rogues leading 3-2 and the bases loaded for the Gems in the top of the sixth inning with no outs, Rogues first baseman Joe Bath committed an error that allowed all three runners to score and the Gems went up 5-3. One of the three Klamath Falls runners reached base via Rogues error.

Bath was the one that got the Rogues started in the second inning, driving in Cole Elvis on a fielder’s choice. Riley Way gave the Rogues a 2-0 lead with his sacrifice fly to right field that plated Riley Kasper, who reached base with a double.

Kody Garvin tacked on one more for the Rogues in the fifth inning with his fourth home run of the year.

The Rogues’ Elvis and Cole Carder both went 2-for-3, and Kasper was 2-for-4.
