Colts claim wild victory over Horizon

Stranding 18 runners while your own pitcher walks 10 isn't exactly a recipe for success, but it all worked out OK for the South Medford Colts in American Legion A baseball on Monday.

The Colts used two hits apiece from Bo Walker, Brett Reordan and Kyle Seutter to slip past Roseburg Horizon for a 7-6 triumph at South Medford High.

"It was kind of a strange game when you think about it," said South Medford coach Tom Britton. "We left a lot of guys on and so did they, we just seemed to make the right plays at the right times."

Seutter's two-run double in the fifth inning supplied the difference after Roseburg rallied with four runs in the eighth inning.

Seutter, who finished with three RBIs, also picked up the win on the mound despite 10 walks in his seven innings of work. He allowed six hits and five runs — four earned — to go with one strikeout before giving way to Walker in the eighth.

"We asked Kyle to just keep us in the game today and he did that," said Britton of Seutter, whom the coach said isn't normally a pitcher for the Colts. "When he did throw walks, we were able to make plays behind it. The only times the walks hurt us was in the eighth inning when he walked the first three batters and they came around and scored. Other than that, he was able to mix his walks with outs."

Walker was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and Reordan 2-for-4 with three runs for the Colts (10-4, 9-3 Area 4).

South Medford next plays host to the North Jackson Eagles today in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
