Central Point sweeps twin bill in dramatic fashion

CENTRAL POINT — Zack Gregor delivered a walkoff single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 2 to help the Central Point Comets sweep an Area 4 American Legion A baseball doubleheader from the Klamath Falls Hawks on Thursday. The scores were 4-2 and 10-9.

Gregor ripped a base hit to right field with the bases loaded to cap the high-scoring affair that saw the Hawks score nine runs in the third and the Comets answer back with six of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Bruce Sanford went 4-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs over both games.

Sanford also went the distance on the mound in the opener, giving up just two hits and striking out 13.

Trailing 9-6 after three innings in the nightcap, Central Point pushed across three runs in the sixth to tie the game and set up Gregor's heroics.

Kos Ray went 3-for-4 for the Comets in Game 2, while Gregor was 2-for-2 and Derek Cartwright went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a solo homer.

The Comets (8-10, 8-8 Area 4) travel to play North Coos Bay on Sunday.
