Ricky Boortz shut down Klamath Falls in six masterful innings and Dylan Marsh drove in two runs as the Medford Mustangs remained perfect in the inaugural Coach K Memorial Tournament with an 8-1 victory Saturday at Harry & David Field.
Boortz struck out four and allowed one run in six innings before Brady Buchanan closed things out in the seventh, as Medford improved to 3-0 in the four-day tournament and 12-3 overall heading into today’s Coach K finale against the Corvallis Marketmen.
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first, the Mustangs scored three runs and never trailed again. Marsh drove in Brady Buchanan, and Joe Johnson and Justin Geyer both scored on wild pitches.
Medford padded its cushion by scoring four more runs in the fourth, including an RBI single by Wyatt Baptiste.
Johnson had a double and scored twice, and Geyer also scored two runs for the Mustangs, who have won seven straight.

NORTH MEDFORD 9, SPRINGFIELD 4: At Eugene, Gavin Schmidt held Springfield to two earned runs in a complete-game effort and Owen Grafton hit two triples to earn the Mavericks a spot in the fourth-place game in the 12-team Best of the West tournament at Swede Johnson Stadium.
Schmidt struck out seven and hit a batter while surrendering four hits to improve to 3-1.
The Mavericks (7-4) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI triple by Grafton and RBI double by Schmidt.
Grafton finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Schmidt 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Josh Baptiste went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
North Medford will face Thurston today at 11:40 a.m.

SAN FRANCISCO 5-9, MEDFORD 2-8: At Alameda, San Francisco’s four-run fourth inning was enough to take the opener and it scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth in Game 2 to complete the sweep after Medford had rallied from a 7-0 deficit to briefly take an 8-7 lead.
In the first game, Seals’ leadoff hitter Brad Bussard drove in two runs and pitchers Tim Brokop and Dillon Porter combined to hold the Rogues to two earned runs, with Brokop striking out seven.
In the second game, Medford (12-11) scored five in the fifth and three in the sixth to surge ahead before San Francisco (8-12) responded with its own rally. Joe Levin scored on a fielder’s choice ground out to tie the game and Taner Gaff singled home Parker Coleman to give the Seals the lead back.
Cole Carder and Cole Elvis had two hits apiece for the Rogues, with Elvis driving in four runs.
For San Francisco, Morgan Edwards had a double, two RBIs and two walks.
