Bellingham skates past Spartans

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Southern Oregon Spartans surrendered the first five goals of the Western States Hockey League contest, allowing the Bellingham Blazers to come away with a 7-2 victory Friday in the first of a three-game series at Bellingham Sportsplex.

With the Blazers (30-10) leading 5-0, the Spartans (10-25) were able to get on the scoreboard in the second period with a goal from Logan Emery. Jan Sokolik tallied the Spartans’ second goal with less than two minutes remaining.

Thomas Steven earned the hat trick in the first period by connecting on the Northwest Division-leading Blazers’ first three goals.
