BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Carder sparks Rogues to sweep of Lincoln Potters

LINCOLN, Calif. — A night after setting a franchise record for team hits in a game, the Medford Rogues Great West League squad, led by Cole Carder, nearly matched the mark again Wednesday, when it wrapped up a three-game series sweep of the Lincoln Potters.

Carder, a former South Medford High School star, finished 4-for-6 with two RBIs and the Rogues claimed their fourth straight win with a 9-4 victory at McBean Stadium.

Tanner Cantwell went 2-for-5 and mashed a two-run homer in the top of the fourth innings to give the Rogues (16-11) a 5-2 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.

The Rogues, who pounded out 19 hits and were just off the pace of Tuesday’s 23-2 win in which they came up with 21 hits, picked up a 3-for-6 effort from Joe Bath, who also scored twice and drove in a run.

Chad Pike, AJ Miller, Tommy Ahlstrom and Blake Baumgartner each had two hits for the Medford. Miller and Pike both scored twice.

Relief pitcher Chase Spinning came in to spell starter Brandon Ross in the fourth inning and was credited with the victory. He struck out five over four innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with no walks.
