ASHLAND — The Ashland American Legion single-A baseball team swept Grants Pass with an effective combination of tough defense and clutch offense at North Mountain Park on Monday.
After their team rallied for a 9-5 victory in the opener, Ethan Schlecht and Max Anderson combined on a no-hitter in an 8-2 win over the Miners in the second contest.
Schlecht, who pitched six innings, struck out five and allowed two unearned runs. Anderson fanned two in the seventh.
Cory Milgram's three-run triple with two outs highlighted the Pilots' seven-run sixth inning in the first game, when Ashland trailed 5-1. Brent Hegdahl was 3-for-3 with an RBI and AJ Adams and Milgram both finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
Jamie Flynn went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run and Ikaika Cecil finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in the nightcap. Billy Hansen, who earned the Game 1 win, was 2-for-4 with two runs.

NORTH JACKSON 9-7, NORTH MEDFORD 6-11 — At Eagle Point, Charlie Walker had a big afternoon to salvage a split with North Jackson in an Area 4 doubleheader.
Walker went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in three runs in the nightcap as the Mavericks (7-5 Area 4) used a hot start to rebound from a Game 1 loss.
Brian Carbonell and Taylor Raff both went 3-for-4 in the contest and A.J. Miller finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.
North Jackson matched the Mavericks' four-run third by knotting the score at 6-all in the bottom of the frame then shut out North the rest of the way.
Weston Gibson and Tyler Atler had two hits apiece and scored a pair of runs for North Jackson.
For the Mavericks, Walker was 3-for-4 while Miller, Kevin Hoyt and Tyler Gould all collected a pair of hits.

GRANTS PASS 8-3, SOUTH MEDFORD 3-13 — South Medford's offense heated up and Cody Albertson pitched five quality innings in the nightcap as the Colts split with Grants Pass at Harry & David Field.
Albertson allowed three earned runs on four hits and four walks to go with three strikeouts. The Colts (9-3, 5-3 Area 4) won in five innings by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule.
The Colts' Ryan Wellock had a two-run triple and Taren Bradd added a 2-for-2, two-run performance.
In the opener, the Colts stranded too many baserunners to generate any offense and the Diggers took advantage.

S.O. RIVERDAWGS 5, NEVADA BIGHORNS 0 — At Carson City, Nev., Frank Charlton pitched a three-hit shutout and Southern Oregon used four first-inning runs to defeat Nevada.
The Bighorns allowed seven walks in the first inning and cycled through four different pitchers. Johnny Omahen drove in Chris Bradshaw in the ninth to put the Riverdawgs ahead 5-0.
Charlton had nine strikeouts and three walks to improve to 2-0.
Southern Oregon (7-5) hosts the Redding Colt 45's at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

VALLEY INVITATIONAL — At Beaverton, the South Medford ASA 16U softball team took fourth out of its 64-team bracket on Sunday.
The Oregon Reign defeated South Medford 5-4 in the third-place game, just after South suffered its first loss of the event in the semifinals to the eventual champions, the Utah Extreme, in a 5-0 decision.
Pitching propelled the Panthers to three-straight victories on the day.
Chloe Hanson pitched a three-hitter for a 2-1 win over the Vancouver, Wash., Patriots and also helped mow down the Vancouver, B.C. Pride, 10-0, with a four-hitter.
Lucy Baldovino also recorded a victory over the U16/U18 Idaho Bandits by throwing a one-hitter in a 5-0 triumph for South.
Rose Marston led South Medford with a 13-for-24, seven-RBI effort throughout the tournament.
Hanson went 3-1 and also went 11-for-23 with six RBIs. Olivia Beamish-White also went 11-for-23 and scored seven runs.
Baldovino went 9-for-23 and drove in six runs with Samantha Owirka going 8-for-20 with a home run, 10 runs scored and seven RBIs.
South's Tasha Equitz chipped in with a 7-for-17 effort and scored 10 runs.
