Allred tied for 11th entering final round

VALDOSTA, Ga. — With one round to play, Jason Allred is in position to advance out of the first stage of PGA Tour Q School at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

The former Ashland golfer shot his third straight under-par round Friday and is tied for 11th place entering today's final round. He tees off today at 9:58 a.m. Eastern.

Allred's 1-under 71 left him at 211, eight shots behind leader Chris DeForest but only four shots out of second place.

The top 21 and ties advance to the second stage. There are 31 players at 214 or better.

On Friday, Allred had three birdies and two bogeys. He shot 69 in the second round — with seven birdies and four bogeys — and 71 in the first.

He has twice advanced from the first stage at Kinderlou Forest, in 2007 and '09.

The second stage is in mid-November, and the six-round final stage begins Nov. 30.

Allred, who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., is attempting to regain status on the PGA Tour. He played there full time in 2005 and '08 and was on the Nationwide Tour the two years between.
