Allred races into fourth at Utah

SANDY, Utah — Jason Allred is heating up.

The Ashland native fired a 6-under-par 65 to catapult himself into fourth place during the second round of the Nationwide Tour Utah Championship at Willow Creek Country Club on Friday.

Allred's strong day included six birdies and just two bogeys. He birdied Nos. 3, 4 and 5, then followed that sterling effort up on the back nine by birdying Nos. 12, 13 and 14.

Allred recorded a bogey on the seventh and 16th holes to accompany 10 holes for par. With his 132 total, he sits three strokes behind the leader, J.J. Killeen.

Allred shot a 67 on Thursday.

Following Killeen's first-round 9-under 62, Jeff Gove, a three-time Nationwide Tour winner, fired a 62 of his own to draw within a stroke of Killeen, who leads with his 129 total.

James Hahn, who recorded a 66 on Friday, is two behind at 131.

The cut came at 3-under 139, with 65 players making it to the weekend. The two Utah Championship winners in the field, 2006 winner Craig Kanada and 2008 champ Brendon Todd, both missed the cut.
