Wortel lifts Raider netters

ASHLAND — A perfect night by senior Mia Wortel helped Southern Oregon defeat Cascade College 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 in Cascade Conference volleyball Friday at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders improved to 14-9 overall and 12-3 in Cascade Conference play. Cascade fell to 6-16 overall and 1-14 in league action.

Wortel finished the night with nine kills and zero errors. With those nine kills, Wortel moved into fifth place on SOU's career kills list with 1,083. Additionally, Wortel had with six blocks.

Leah Bergstrom also executed well on the Raiders frontline. The sophomore rightside provided eight kills and no errors in nine attempts for an attack percentage of .889.

Women's Soccer

SOUTHERN OREGON 2, CORBAN 1, OT — At Ashland, Southern Oregon's Katie Griffith scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in the second overtime at University Field.

SOU improved to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in Cascade Conference play. Corban fell to 7-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference action. SOU hosts Warner Pacific today at 3 p.m.

Freshman goalie Jessica Kuehlwien recorded six saves for the Raiders.
