Stutes, Reyes named to third team

CORVALLIS — Oregon State right-handed pitchers Mike Stutes and Jorge Reyes have been named to the Louisville Slugger preseason All-America third team, Collegiate Baseball announced Monday.

Now a senior, Stutes went 12-4 as a junior in 2007. In two seasons with Oregon State, Stutes has gone 20-6, posting a 3.70 ERA in 39 games, 36 of which have been starts. He struck out a team-leading 129 in 1322/3 innings last season, which also placed him second in the Pacific-10 Conference.

Reyes, who will be a sophomore, went 7-3 as a freshman last season and was named the most outstanding player at the College World Series, where he was 2-0 in two appearances. Reyes, a Warden, Wash., native, posted a 3.10 ERA in 24 appearances last season, 11 of which were starts. He struck out 64 in 811/3 innings.

The Beavers will open the 2008 season by taking on Vanderbilt Feb. 22 at the Arizona State Tournament in Tempe, Ariz.

The Beavers, in their second weekend of play, will then host Georgia in a three-game series at PGE Park. Titled the Papé Grand Slam, the series will be Feb. 29-March 2, with tickets going on sale Jan. 14 at all Ticketmaster outlets — including — or by calling 503-224-4400.
