Southern Oregon moves to No. 8 in NAIA coaches’ poll

ASHLAND — A weekend sweep of Carroll (Mont.) meant more upward movement in the NAIA Top 25 for the Southern Oregon University softball team, which checked in at No. 8 in Tuesday’s penultimate regular-season poll.

The Raiders (38-11 overall, 19-5 Cascade Conference) are up one spot from the previous poll, released two weeks ago. They’re also tied for first place with Corban (31-10, 19-5) going into their final regular-season games Friday and Saturday at Eastern Oregon. The Warriors elevated one spot to No. 12 in the rankings, while Oregon Tech (31-11, 18-6) went from 22nd to 20th.

SOU’s new ranking represents its highest-ever in a regular-season poll.

With it, the Raiders are expected to receive one of 10 NAIA National Championship Opening Round host bids that will be announced by the national office on Wednesday. Procuring one of those would mean an automatic spot in the 40-team NAIA Opening Round, which will take place May 14-16.
