SOU prepares to host its own Invitational

The Southern Oregon softball team will host the third annual Southern Oregon Invitational Saturday and Sunday at U.S. Cellular Community Park in Medford.

Due to weather concerns this week, the tournament has been reduced to a five-team, seven-game event.

Southern Oregon, Oregon Tech, Northwest Christian, Holy Names and Simpson will take part in the Invitational. Oregon Tech and Simpson are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Raiders will face Simpson at 11 a.m. Saturday in their only appearance during the day. Oregon Tech will face Holy Names at 11 and Simpson at 1 p.m. Northwest Christian will face Holy Names at 1 p.m. and Simpson at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, Southern Oregon will play a doubleheader against Holy Names starting at 10 a.m.

The Raiders enter this week with a 2-5 preseason record, with all seven games being against teams either ranked in the Top 25 or receiving votes.

SOU's two victories have come against Simpson and Davenport.

Sophomore Rayna Okimoto has been the offensive star for the Raiders through the first week of preseason play. Okimoto is batting .474, with a team-high three home runs and seven RBI.

Freshman pitcher Karlie Stephens has picked up both wins for the Raiders this year in the circle. Stephens is 2-0 with a 3.23 ERA.
