SOU netters crush Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Southern Oregon University volleyball team can breathe easy. A weekend of potential trap-matches turned into just another weekend.

The Raiders disposed of Evergreen on Saturday night, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17, completing a successful road trip to Washington and a tour of the bottom of the Cascade Conference with their seventh straight win.

Paulla Pinheiro led the way for the second straight night with 14 kills and eight digs and Lauren McGowne posted 36 assists for the Raiders (14-7 overall, 11-3 CCC), who thereby set up a monster week ahead against first- and second-place Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho in Ashland.

Evergreen (4-15, 3-11) has dropped 46 straight sets at the hands of SOU.

Nikki Keller had eight kills on a .462 attacking average and Abbie Hanser had four kills on seven swings with four assisted blocks, shoring up a middle-blocker position that was without the top hitter in the league, Emma Gasman, all weekend. Mona Goudarzian had 10 kills on 23 swings and Renee Yomtob's 12 digs were a match-high.

The Geoducks were led by Meredith Gurr's 13 kills but no one else had more than five.

Concordia lost on Friday and Saturday, giving the Raiders a two-match lead all alone in third place. They're one match behind C of I and two behind Eastern.
