SOU netters cruise past Warner Pacific

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon held Warner Pacific to a minus-.011 attack percentage and cruised to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-14 victory over the Knights Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders improved to 15-9 overall and 13-3 in Cascade Conference action heading into a key conference matchup Tuesday against Oregon Tech in Ashland.

Senior Mia Wortel led the Raiders with 12 kills and a .476 attack percentage. Leah Bergstrom had nine kills and Sarah Holgen finished with eight kills and 13 digs.

Sophomore libero Maggie Rivers finished with 21 digs, while junior setter Lindsey Stone had 37 assists for the Raiders.

The Knights (6-12, 4-12 CCC) hung around in the third set, cutting the SOU lead to 15-11 on an attack error, but the Raiders were poised to put the match away in a hurry.

Sparked by a pair of Holgen kills, the Raiders finished off the match with a 10-3 run.

Women's Soccer

WARNER PACIFIC 2, SOUTHERN OREGON 1 — At Ashland, Sarah Bidwell's second-half goal was the difference as Warner Pacific edged Southern Oregon at University Field.

The Knights (3-11-2, 2-7-1 CCC) did not was any time getting on board, scoring on an Ashley Grace goal just 23 seconds into the match.

That score held up until midway through the second half, when SOU's Denise Powell found the net on an outstanding individual move to tie the game at 1-1. It then took Warner Pacific 11 seconds to score on Bidwell's eventual game-winner.

Cross Country

OREGON STATE BEAVER CLASSIC — At Corvallis, the eighth-ranked Southern Oregon men's cross country team turned in perhaps its best performance of the season to claim the team title at the Oregon State Beaver Classic.

The Raiders finished with 26 points and out-distanced Oregon's 36 points.

The SOU men finished ahead of Cascade Conference foes Oregon Tech (seventh, 216), Evergreen State (eighth, 224), Warner Pacific (ninth, 229), Corban (11th, 277), Cascade (12th, 307) and Northwest (13th, 318).

Cameron Kreuz, David Laney and Anthony Monteleone all finished in the top three for the Raiders.

Kreuz finished first in 24:30, he was followed by Laney in third place (24:33) and Monteleone in fourth (24:36).

Joe Rath finished seventh in 24:47 and Ryan Gelfi finished 11th in 25:11. The top five runners for the Raiders were separated by just over 24 seconds.

Katelyn Alley and Kristen Juveland finished 42nd and 43rd, respectively, with times of 23:14 and 23:20 for the SOU women. Whitney Riehl finished in 25:24.
