ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon men's basketball team will try to build on its recent 5-1 stretch when the Raiders host Concordia and Warner Pacific in a pair of Cascade Conference contests this week.
Southern Oregon (10-5, 3-1 CC) faces Concordia Thursday and 17th-ranked Knights Friday. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Friday's game will feature a fundraiser partnering Southern Oregon with Hope4Hoopers to collect athletic shoes for kids in need. Instead of paying the traditional admission fees, fans will have the opportunity to donate a pair of shoes (new or gently used) to receive entry to the contests. All sizes for men and women will be accepted, and each pair of shoes donated enters the donor into a raffle drawing for T-shirts, backpacks and a signed basketball.
Southern Oregon has outscored its opponents 1,146-1,097 this season while shooting 47.9 percent from the field (391 of 816). The Raiders rank second in the conference and fourth in the NAIA in free throw percentage (.757).
SOU's Eric Thompson is averaging 20.6 points per game to lead the CC and rank eighth in the nation, shooting 48.5 percent from the field (111-for-229).
Thompson also ranks second in the league in rebounding, averaging 8.1 per game, and leads the league in free throw percentage (.859).
Jordan Highland ranks eighth in the CC with a 57.3 shooting percentage (63 of 110) and is averaging 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Concordia ranks sixth in the CC standings with a 1-2 record, 8-5 overall.
The Cavaliers lead the conference in scoring with an average of 85.9 points per game.
Warner Pacific (11-3) is ranked 17th in the NAIA and is tied for second in the conference standings at 3-0. The Knights rank fourth in the conference in scoring (82.5 per game).
Biniam Tadele leads the team in scoring (11.6), with William Sharp right behind at 11.2.
RAIDERS IN ACTION — Southern Oregon (10-5, 1-3 CC) looks to end a four-game skid when it hosts Concordia and Warner Pacific Thursday and Friday, respectively, at 5:30 p.m.
The aforementioned shoe fundraiser will be in effect for Friday's game.
The Raiders rank first in the nation with an average of 47.7 rebounds per game, and their 11.53 steals per game rank second in the conference. They're fifth in the CC in scoring (70.3 per game) and sixth in opponents' scoring (65.2).
Josi McDermott and Haley Newell lead the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game.
Nalani Hernandez leads SOU in rebounding with 7.2 per contest.
Concordia (4-10, 0-3 CC) is ninth in the CC. The Cavaliers average 64.8 points per game and allow 68.6.
Rachel Scarpelli leads the team in scoring 11.4 points per game.
Warner Pacific is 8-6 and 2-1. The Knights are second in the conference in shooting at 44.4, and their 18.14 assists per game ranks second in the conference in sixth in the nation.
Kelsey Mattsen leads the team and ranks 10th in the CC in scoring at 12.8.
