Raiders sweep football honors

ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University football team NAIA independent weekly honors.

Following last Saturday's 40-28 victory over third-ranked NCAA Division III Mary Hardin-Baylor, senior quarterback J.C. Hunsaker has been named the offensive player of the week, junior linebacker Kevin Harrell earned the defensive honor and senior punter Steve Palmer was the special teams recipient.

Hunsaker had 150 yards on 21-for-32 passing, including three touchdowns. Harrell had a team-high nine tackles, including six assisted stops.

Palmer punted six times, and four of his boots pinned the Crusaders inside the 20-yard line. Two led to turnovers and scores for the SOU defense. Palmer also had a 58-yarder.

The Raiders are off this week and visit South Dakota Nov. 8.

Cross Country

SOU senior Cameron Kreuz has been named the Cascade Conference's top male cross country runner for the week.

Kreuz claimed the individual title at last week's Oregon State Beaver Classic in Corvallis.

He covered the 8,000-meter course in 24 minutes, 30 seconds.

The eighth-ranked Raiders also claimed the team title and have not been beaten by an NAIA school this fall.

SOU competes in the Cascade Conference meet next week in Seattle.

SOU sophomore libero Maggie Rivers has been named the Cascade Conference libero of the week.

Rivers helped the Raiders to a pair of sweeps over Cascade College and Warner Pacific last weekend.

She had 13 digs against Cascade and 21 digs against Warner Pacific and ranks fifth in the conference with 3.95 digs per set.
