Raiders split pair with Concordia

ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University softball team rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Concordia University 8-7 in Game 2 of a doubleheader, but Concordia nipped SOU 6-4, in the first game on Saturday.

With two outs in the nightcap, the Raiders' Savannah Sanitos scored the winning run on an error by the Cavaliers' first baseman.

SOU's Meghan Laughlin and Sanitos each drove in runs after the Raiders (12-18, 10-8 CCC) loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh.

After a pop out and tag at home plate, SOU's Alicia Caudill's RBI single tied the game at 8. SOU centerfielder Ricci Coultas put the ball in play to set up the winning score.

Caudill was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs and Coultas was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

In the opener, Concordia (16-12, 11-7 CCC) compiled 11 hits and scored three runs in the first and fourth innings to pull away.

Danielle Stratton's three-run home run for the Raiders in the fourth inning cut the deficit to two.

Caudill was 2-for-4 for SOU.


SHASTA INVITATIONAL — At Redding, Calif., senior Daniel Cecchini cleared 6 feet, 8 inches in the high jump to earn a national qualifying mark for Southern Oregon University at Shasta Community College.

For the women, Katelyn Alley clocked 2 minutes, 23.73 seconds to nab first place in the 800 meters.
