EUGENE — Jordan Hunt registered 20 points and nine rebounds, Tristen Holmes had 18 and seven and No. 22 Southern Oregon got through an ugly opening night with an 86-63 win against New Hope on Tuesday at Cordeiro Court.
Two freshmen making their debuts, Teron Bradford and Kiefer Edwards, sparked the Raiders late. Bradford went for 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Edwards checked in with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Outside of Bradford’s 2-for-4 showing from 3-point range, the rest of the Raiders combined to go 2-for-11. They shot just 44 percent from the field but pulled down 20 offensive rebounds and outscored the Deacons (0-5) 50-22 in the paint.
After letting the Deacons hang around for much of the game, SOU pulled away with a 20-2 run in the second half during which Hunt tacked on his final nine points.
Matt Boudreaux was the fifth Raiders in double figures with 12 points and nine rebounds. Tez Allen added five assists and Tate Hoffman had seven rebounds.
Jebari Robinson’s 16 points led the Deacons.
SOU will travel this weekend to the Fultz Memorial Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., playing Friday against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and Saturday against host Arizona Christian.
