Raiders notch sixth straight net win

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon won its sixth straight volleyball match Saturday with a sweep of Northwest Christian, 30-18, 30-16, 30-25, in Cascade Conference play at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders are 13-4 on the season and 7-1 in league. They've won 13 straight matches at home, including five this season.

Northwest Christian, from Eugene, dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-6 in league.

The Raiders had a hitting percentage of .289 and held the Beacons to .083 hitting.

SOU had 50 kills, led by Jaclyn Hamilton-Smith with 16. Mia Wortel tallied 13 kills and Richelle Millsap had 10.

Raider setters Lindsey Stone and Molly Grossmann set the pace with 29 and 18 assists, respectively. In the backcourt, SOU libero Emily Stone recorded 20 digs and notched two service aces, and Shanna Claflin had a team-high seven blocks.

Cross Country

RAIDER MEN NINTH — At Salem, Southern Oregon placed ninth in the Charles Bowles Invitational hosted by Willamette. The Raider women didn't field a complete team.

SOU scored 237 points, led by sophomore Cameron Kreuz, who was 16th out of 268 runners in 25:06.35 over 8,000 meters. He was followed by teammate Kevin Jeffers, who was 25th in 25:17.95. Also, Joe Rath was 62nd in 25:57.35, Josh Seitz 71st in 26:08.80 and David Laney 85th in 26:17.35.

For the SOU women, Katelyn Alley was 107th in 19:50.25 for 5,000 meters, Kristen Haga was 118th in 19:58.55, Rachel Gussin was 236th in 22:48.40 and Mary Converse was 252nd in 24:10.35.

Willamette won the men's and women's titles.


SOU TRIUMPHS — At Kirkland, Wash., Southern Oregon defeated Northwest University 3-0 to improve to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the Cascade Conference.

The Raiders took only three shots on goal and converted each, all in the first half.

Morgan Spencer made an unassisted goal at 5:52 of the game. She then assisted Kara Bradach at 19:13. Auika Muragin finished the scoring with her fourth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with Justina MacDowell
