Raiders drop 1-0 match to Albertson

ASHLAND — Albertson won its first Cascade Conference soccer match and, in the process, handed Southern Oregon its first league loss on Friday, 1-0.

Forward Jamie Reichel scored the game's lone goal for the Coyotes with 51/2 minutes left in the first half, sneaking a shot to the left past Raider goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins.

SOU, which is 4-4-1, 1-1 in CC, outshot Albertson (4-3-2, 1-0-2 CC) 16-8. The Raiders had eight shots on goal to Albertson's four.

Southern Oregon also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

SOU's Auika Muragin took five shots.


SOUTHERN OREGON 3, CONCORDIA 1 — At Portland, Southern Oregon extended its wining streak to five matches by halting Concordia's six-match streak with a 22-30, 30-23, 30-26, 30-21 win in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

After surrendering the first game, Southern Oregon took the next three to move to 10-4 on the season while Concordia fell to 8-6. With the result, both teams now carry a 4-1 mark in conference play.

Behind two Erika Doremus aces, Concordia started fast in the opening game by scoring the first five points before a Raider push balanced the game at 7-7. In the next point, a kill by Samantha Yutzie provided SOU with its first lead. After another tie at 17, three kills by Raluca Dinca helped close the first game for Cavaliers with a 30-22 advantage.
