Raiders coast to easy win

ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team took a 24-point lead into halftime and coasted the rest of the way en route to a 95-65 victory over New Hope Christian in the fourth game of the Flagship Inn Classic on Friday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

With the win, Southern Oregon improves to 4-3 overall, while New Hope Christian falls to 1-8. Both teams will play today, with the Deacons slated to play Oregon Tech at 3:30 p.m. and the Raiders set to face Simpson at 7:30 p.m.

Eric Thompson finished with a team-high 15 points, while Scott Tiefenthaler added 14 in the win. Jeff Bush and Dex Daum also scored in double figures for the Raiders with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

For New Hope Christian, Forest Stolk scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting, with Cameron Fry adding 12 and Corey Gantt adding 10.

Thompson opened the game with a bucket, and the Raiders led the entire way. The Deacons stayed within one point as late as 10 minutes into the first half at 18-17, but SOU closed the first half on a 25-2 run and led by at least 22 throughout the second half.
