Raiders claim 18th straight over Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Southern Oregon split two close sets before pulling away to bigger wins in the final two as the Raiders defeated Northwest 26-24, 24-26, 25-15, 25-18 in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball Friday at NU Pavilion.

Southern Oregon, 9-7 overall and 5-1 in conference, picked up its 18th consecutive win over Northwest (9-6, 3-3).

Haley Kasler led SOU with 17 kills and tallied a .406 attack percentage, while Mona Goudarzian and Natalie Scheller each added 15 kills for the Raiders.

Caryn Westrick posted her second double-double in the past three matches with 28 assists and 11 digs for the Raiders, and Renee Yomtob added 23 digs.

Olivia Vandlac led Northwest with 14 kills and 18 digs, and Breanna Covey added 11 kills in the loss.

Northwest led throughout most of the first set, leading by as many as five points late when Vandlac's kill made it 21-16.

SOU used a 5-1 run to pull within one at 22-21, and following an NU point, Southern Oregon closed with a 5-1 run to clinch the victory on back-to-back kills by Kasler and Scheller.

The second set featured 11 tie scores and seven lead changes, and Southern Oregon earned a set-point advantage when a kill by Scheller made it 24-23.

Northwest tied it up with a kill by Molly Boyle, and she followed that with a service ace to give the Eagles the set-point opportunity. An SOU ball-handling error gave the Eagles their third straight point and the 26-24 set win.

SOU jumped ahead to an 8-2 lead to start the third set, and Northwest never pulled closer than three the rest of the set. The Raiders used a 7-1 run midway through for a six-point lead.
