Raider women hit road in playoff opener tonight

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon is the seventh seed as it hits the road tonight to open the Cascade Conference playoffs.

The Raiders (16-14) travel to Salem for a quarterfinal game against second-seeded Corban (18-10) at 7 p.m.

Corban tied for the regular season title with Concordia but is the No. 2 seed because of tiebreakers. The Warriors come into the matchup winners of four straight, including a sweep of Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho on the road two weeks ago.

The Raiders are coming off one of their best offensive performances of the season in a win over Concordia and have won three of four to end the season.

Against Concordia, Jamie Roupp recorded a triple-double and the Raiders as a team had four players score in double figures.

This marks the fifth straight year the Raiders have reached the postseason under head coach Lynn Kennedy.

SOU will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak to Corban, including a pair of setbacks this year.

Corban scored a 75-55 victory in Salem early in the conference season and then escaped with a 92-89 overtime victory in Ashland a few weeks ago.

MEET THE COACH — The Southern Oregon Athletic Department will host a meet-and-greet with new head football coach Craig Howard from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today Louie's Bar and Grill on the Ashland Plaza.

Finger food will be available courtesy of Louie's. The session is open to the public.

Howard was named the football coach last week and arrived in Ashland Wednesday, after which the Raiders hosted their first recruiting weekend on the campus.
