OSU evens series with Toreros

SAN DIEGO — The second-ranked Oregon State baseball team scored seven runs in the fourth inning Friday night at Fowler Park to defeat San Diego, 14-5, evening the series with the host Toreros.

The win sent Oregon State to a 22-3 mark this season and broke a four-game losing streak to San Diego for the Beavers, who last won defeated the Toreros in 2005. San Diego, meanwhile, dropped to 17-10 this season.

Oregon State sent 10 to the plate in the fourth, scoring the seven runs on the strength of five hits, two San Diego errors and three wild pitches. All seven runs were scored with one out and five were credited to Torero starter Dylan Covey as USD used three pitchers during the frame.

OREGON 1, WASHINGTON 0 — At Eugene, Tommy Thorpe and Jimmie Sherfy combined on a three-hit shutout to lead No. 12 Oregon to a win over Washington in Pac-12 Conference action at PK Park.

Thorpe (4-2) got the win holding the Huskies to three hits in eight innings, while striking out seven and walking three. Sherfy picked up his eighth save getting the Huskies in order, including a pair of strikeouts, in the ninth.

Freshman Josh Graham and sophomore Steven Packard both went 2-for-4 helping Oregon (21-6, 7-1 Pac-12) finish with eight hits.
