Oregon's Holland out of Rose Bowl

EUGENE — Oregon junior wide receiver Jamere Holland has been ruled academically ineligible to play in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

The University of Oregon made the announcement Wednesday.

He had 13 receptions, fifth on the team, for 199 yards and two touchdowns this season. He also carried the ball three times for 41 yards.

Holland, a Southern California native, started the first two games of the season before being relegated to a reserve role for the bulk of the year.

Senior Rory Cavaille or sophomore Garrett Embry will likely fill Holland's void on the depth chart. They have just two catches between them in 2009 (both by Embry), but both are experienced.

Oregon's starting wideouts are juniors Jeff Maehl and D.J. Davis, and sophomore Lavasier Tuinei.

Holland, a transfer from Southern Cal, is the Ducks' fastest player, clocking a 40-yard dash time of 4.51. He also runs track for Oregon.
