No. 6 Beaver gymnasts triumph

CORVALLIS — The sixth-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team hit its first 23 routines and tied its second highest score of the season to win at the 31st annual Salbasgeon Suites Invitational.

The Beavers' final tally of 196.675 topped No. 11 Washington (195.725), San Jose State (193.050) and UC Davis (192.950).

Junior Leslie Mak led the Beavers, winning individual titles on the uneven bars (9.9) and balance beam (9.9) as well as in the all-around, where she just missed her career high with a score of 39.425.

The Beavers' Britney Ranzy captured the vault (9.925) and Melanie Jones tied for first on the floor exercise (9.9).


ST. MARY'S 3, OREGON 2 — At Eugene, Tyler Anderson and No. 15 Oregon (2-3) were in command for seven innings before Saint Mary's scored three times in the eighth and hung on for a win in the Ducks' home opener at PK Park.

The Gaels (2-2) took advantage of five walks and a wild pitch in the eighth, scoring three runs on one hit. Oregon reliever Kellen Moen (0-1) took the loss, allowing a pair of free passes in relief of Anderson. The first turned out to be the winning run.

Anderson matched his career high with 12 strikeouts before leaving with one out in the eighth with a 2-0 lead.

Stefan Sabol went 2-for-4 in a losing effort.
