LSU edges Oregon State

BATON ROUGE, La. — Marcus Thornton scored all but two of his 20 points on 3-pointers, the last with 12 seconds left, and LSU beat Oregon State 67-61 on Saturday.

Thornton scored the last five points for the Tigers (7-4).

He made two free throws with 55 seconds left to give LSU a 64-58 lead. A few seconds later, a 3-pointer by Roeland Schaftenaar cut the Tigers' lead in half before Thornton's final, off-balance 3-pointer.

Anthony Randolph had 14 points and nine rebounds for LSU, while Terry Martin added 15 points, all on 3-point baskets.

Schaftenaar led the Beavers (6-5) with 14 points, all in the second half. Omari Johnson and Seth Tarver had 13 each.

Three 3-pointers by Thornton ignited a 19-7 run which gave LSU control in the first half. The Tigers led 38-31 at halftime.

Sparked by Schaftenaar's three baskets, one a 3-pointer, the Beavers pulled within 49-47 with just over 12 minutes left.

Thornton answered with a 3-pointer on the next possession. The Tigers then held a four- to eight-point lead until Schaftenaar's 3-ponter with 47 seconds left.
