The Southern Oregon football team came away with nine selections on the 2009 Preseason All-Independent Team as voted on by the head coaches of the nine NAIA Independent programs.
Of the nine SOU selections, five were on offense and junior Vance Beach received two selections. Beach was voted as a wide receiver and kick returner. He caught 32 balls last year for 288 yards and also returned 15 kickoffs for 275 yards.
Joining Beach on the offense are linemen Trent Henson, Jordan Myers and Buddy Tuamasaga. Henson and Myers were both members of the All-Independent team last season. Sophomore fullback Brent Koontz also made the team.
Defensively, lineman Will Watson, linebacker Kevin Harrell and defensive back Akeem Jackson made the team.
The Raiders will have their final preseason scrimmage at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in Raider Stadium.
The Jackson County New Car Dealer's Association is expected to present a $10,000 check to the SOU Raider Athletic Scholarship foundation at 3 p.m. Monday in the lobby of McNeal Pavilion.
The presentation will be attended by Rogue Valley auto dealers, student athletes and school officials from SOU.
Southern Oregon football, volleyball, wrestling and men's and women's basketball action will all be available online during the 2009-10 school year.
The department announced Thursday that live video for home events of those five programs will be available on www.souraiders.com, starting with this weekend's Raider Classic volleyball tournament.
The department also announced that this year they have moved away from radio broadcasts and all football games and home basketball games will have audio broadcasts only available on www.souraiders.com.
Those audio broadcasts will also be patched into the video broadcasts, allowing fans the chance to both watch and listen to the games.
The SOU athletic department will monitor this year's Web-only broadcasts and decide on pursuing a local radio deal following this year.
Former SOU radio voice Bill Jacobs will return to calling the action for the football and basketball games this year. Jacobs was the voice of the Raiders during the 1996-97 season.
The audio and video will be free.
