Lalich dismissed from OSU football program

CORVALLIS — Oregon State coach Mike Riley told reporters Thursday that quarterback Peter Lalich has been dismissed from the team.

Lalich was arrested earlier this month at Shasta Lake in Northern California on suspicion of drunken boating.

Lalich spent spring practice on the second string and was expected to be a backup this fall.

Lalich transferred to Oregon State in 2008 after a pair of alcohol-related incidents got him kicked off the Virginia team.

The Oregon State baseball team's 2-1 win over Oregon helped its chances of squeaking into the 64-team NCAA tournament, but the Beavers will need some wins over Arizona this weekend.

Oregon State is only 29-21 on the season, but it has won eight of 11 heading into this weekend's final regular-season home series.

Despite Wednesday's defeat, the Oregon Ducks appear to be in good shape for an NCAA bid as they prepare to host a weekend series with California.

The Ducks have won 37 of 57 games this year, but coach George Horton thinks the Ducks still have some work to do before they can count on making the tournament.

The U.S. World Cup roster includes former Oregon State star Robbie Findley.

The striker played in Corvallis from 2002 to 2005 before heading to Major League Soccer.

He helped Real Salt Lake win the MLS Cup last season.

The U.S. team departs for South Africa on Sunday and will play its opening match June 12 against England.

Oregon State soccer coach Steve Simmons says the university "couldn't be prouder" of Findley.
