Beavers roll past Cardinal

CORVALLIS — Jason Lara, Mike Mangrum and Brice Arand all recorded pins as the 13th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team rolled past Stanford, 35-6, Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.

Clayton Jack closed out the dual with a technical fall and the Beavers scored bonus points in four of their eight individual victories to bounce back from an 18-15 loss to No. 24 Cal Poly on Friday night.

The Beavers put themselves at 8-4-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in Pacific-10 Conference meets.

In the most highly-anticipated bout of the night, No. 7 Colby Covington posted a 3-1 lead after two periods and held on for a 3-2 win over former Phoenix High standout and sixth-ranked Nick Amuchastegui of Stanford.

Amuchastegui, wrestling at 174 pounds, earned his only point of the third period on an escape.

Lara (125 pounds) came out of the gates strong and gave the Beavers a 6-0 lead when, in just 2:33, he pinned Stanford's Austin Quarles after getting an early takedown and a three-point near fall. With the win, he ran his record to 19-8 on the season and 4-0 in duals decided by pins.
