Comet wrestlers cruise in Classic

CENTRAL POINT — Nine Crater wrestlers went undefeated with multiple wins and the Comets finished 3-0 in their dual matches at the six-team Crater Classic at Crater High on Saturday.

Crater beat Anderson, 51-25, topped Ashland, 72-12, and downed Springfield, 68-12.

Eagle Point, Grants Pass and Anderson all went 2-1, while the Millers were 1-3 and the Grizzlies 0-2.

For the Comets, Hunter Grant (120 pounds), Hunter Hiatt (126), Nathan Santoni (145) and Logan Meek (151) finished 3-0.

Dallas Howard (132/138), Bryce Cwiklinski (138), James Pendleton (195), Beau Crawford (220) and Javon Gill (285) were all 2-0.

Cwiklinski recorded a 28-second pin against Anderson's Anthony Smith and beat Springfield's Ben King by technical fall, 19-4.

"I thought Bryce did a good job," Crater head coach Greg Haga said. "He wrestled smart."

Other winners for Crater were Peyton Wilson (106), Angel Diaz (113), Isaiah Griffith (132), Rock Hunsaker (132), Logan Lowder (170), Markus Bennett (170), Tony Flores (182), Caleb Lawrence (195), Daniel Flores (220) and Cameron Sweet (285).

"We had some of our second men wrestle in spots," Haga said. "It's just a good experience for them."

For Eagle Point, Chance McMullen (120) and Josh Sitzer (132) went 3-0 and Ali Barajas (145) 2-0.

Ashland's Zach Adler (182) finished 2-0 with victories over the Comets and Springfield.

Grants Pass' Barrett Titus (113), Kolby Bautista (126) and Jordan Main (195) were all 3-0.

BAY CITY DUALS: At Coos Bay, Phoenix claimed the Silver Bracket crown with a 57-12 victory over North Valley at Marshfield High.

The Pirates topped South Umpqua, 42-24, earlier in the semifinals.

In the finals, Yovanni Bazen-Chavez (120 pounds), Brandon Brumble (126), Jacky Hawkins (132), Dalton Samis (138), Elijah Santana (145) and Ismael DeLaTorre (285) earned pins for the Pirates.

Swimming

NORTH BEND MEET: At North Bend, Phoenix's Alec Shepherd won the 100-yard breaststroke at the three-team meet at North Bend Municipal Pool.

Shepherd recorded a time of 1 minute, 9.55 seconds.

North Bend swept the boys and girls titles with 142 and 186 points, respectively. Lebanon was second for the boys (116) and girls (89) and the Pirates were third (46 for the boys, 29 for the girls).

Shepherd took second in the 50 freestyle (23.47).

Skiing

XC INVITATIONAL: At Bend, Elias Lawson claimed ninth place out of 88 skiers and Erik Oline was 16th for Ashland at the XC Oregon Invitational at Mt. Bachelor.

Lawson's time was 14:00.8 and Oline's was 14:40.8.

Mina Devore finished in 33rd (20:39.2) out 104 for the Grizzlies in the skate-style race.
